Story
Whether it’s a child injured in a bomb blast or a woman with pregnancy complications, emergency surgery saves lives.
But performing surgery is complex, requiring highly trained staff; specialist equipment; and safe, clean facilities. Up to 70 percent of the world’s population do not have access to this vital medical care. That’s why, in conflict zones, natural disasters, and remote communities, MSF’s expert teams are bringing surgical care to people whose lives are on the line.
Why now?
In 2022, MSF teams around the world conducted more than 118,000 major operations.
Now people in places like Gaza, Sudan and Afghanistan are facing new crises. Needs are growing.
In the countries where we work, the need for surgical care has never been higher.
