The purpose of this scholarship is to provide Health Information Technology students at Houston Community College with $500 to assist with tuition, books, national certification and other college expenses.

Story

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide Health Information Technology students at Houston Community College with $500 to assist with tuition, books, national certification and other college expenses. Health Information Technology students may sit for the national Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential upon completion of their Associate of Applied Science. Health Information Technicians have an indirect impact on the health care provided to patients. They assure health information is accurate, timely and complete to support the clinicians in providing care and treatment to patients. If the information is not provided in an accurate and timely manner, patient care is jeopardized. Health Information practitioners work in hospitals, ambulatory care, home health, hospice, long-term care, state and federal health departments, insurance companies, law firms and pharmacy companies as well as other healthcare facilities.
