Sarahs Story
I very much value Moving On as a service in the Inverclyde community and feel that this is a service we should support and feel proud of. I have worked in two other local authorities in Scotland and I have not seen or heard of a third sector service anywhere close to what is being offered at Moving On.
I experienced parental addiction when I was a teenager. My mum was addicted to alcohol, which significantly impacted on her life, as well as that of myself and my younger brother.
In 2017, my mum was referred to Moving On after working with the Wellpark Centre to facilitate community detox. Moving On worked diligently with mum, in order to support her recovery and reintegrate her into the community. Moving On helped mum to find a new normal, rediscover who she is and supported her to give back to the community. I will be forever thankful to Moving On service and staff for giving me my mum back.
I never really thought that I could do this and it hasnt been easy but it was worth it, my life is so much better now and I feel brilliant, my family finally have something to be proud of me for and that feels amazing
Alcohol crept up on me and I couldnt see a way back, I felt lost, I lost my confidence and felt I had nothing left to do, Life is now so much better I have a reason to get up and love my Volunteering and have began liking myself again
At first it was all about recovery, but I came to see that my time at Moving On was about a total lifestyle change. I changed my way of thinking, how I saw myself and realised I had the ability to change.
