Story
This year, taking part in group events is more difficult than usual, due to ongoing restrictions, and the need for social distancing. As part of our Start Strong UK Aid Match appeal, we would like to offer you a way to take part in a fundraising challenge, without the need to attend a group event.
Our newest challenge is called the Move for Mothers Challenge.
Find your favourite way to move and set yourself a target. You might be an avid walker, keen cyclist, long-distance runner, or even a water-loving swim enthusiast. You can use any of these activities to take part in our initiative.
To take part, you choose a month, or a 30 day period during our appeal window (26th March to 25th June 2021) and set yourself a target of how far you can accumulatively walk, run, swim or cycle over that period. For example, you might set yourself a target of walking 100km, throughout your month or you could attempt to cycle a total of 500km etc. The target you set yourself should depending on your fitness level and of course your free time available!
We hope the Move for Mothers Challenge will be a way to have fun, get fit, and raise vital funds for our Start Strong appeal while being completely Covid-19 safe, and not relying on anyone else but you!
The Start Strong Appeal
The Start Strong appeal will be raising funds to support 1,000 mothers and their children living in the mountains of far West Nepal.
Women are the foundation of family life in Nepal, responsible for both their family and land. However, due to patriarchal society in rural areas, women are often excluded from training and resources. The Start Strong project will run from 2021 2024 and aims to improve maternal healthcare and will focus on a healthy start for the first 1,000 days of life for children. The project will also work with mothers to improve their farming practices to increase availability of high value foods, improve diet diversification, and reduce malnutrition.
