We are so grateful that Simon - the partner of our beloved volunteer Dot's granddaughter has completed the London Marathon to raise money for our theatre the Morecambe Winter Gardens. The Winter Gardens is a Grade II* listed Victorian masterpiece situated on the front of Morecambe promenade. Closed as a full time venue since 1977 over the past two decades a group of dedicated volunteers have saved the building from demolition, purchased it for the people of Morecambe and are now raising the millions required to open it again. But that is not the full story - it is the volunteers like the amazing Dot and her colleagues who are the heart and soul of Morecambe Winter Gardens. They give their time freely to bring this amazing theatre back to life and last year were awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Services for their work. Every penny raised goes towards our running costs as despite our success at raising funds for the restoration we still need to find the monthly costs of heating, insurance and running costs.
