Story
Rochester Regional Healths Mobile Mammography Center provides early breast cancer detection services to women 40 and older in Western New York and the Finger Lakes Region.
The goal of the program is to work collaboratively with community partners and health care providers to make it easier for women, especially those in more rural areas, to get a mammogram in their community. Annual mammograms are important because when breast cancer is caught early, it is much easier to treat.
The 42-foot long, private, RV-style vehicle is staffed with highly trained breast radiologists and provides the same high-quality, 3-D breast imaging technology available at all of Rochester Regional Healths breast imaging locations.
The mobile unit is on the road daily serving women in Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Ontario, Yates, Seneca, Cayuga, and Steuben counties. Since its introduction in August 2018, the Mobile Mammography Center has served more than 3,600 women.
The Mobile Mammography Center was made possible through a three-year grant from the State of New York Health Research Inc., and the New York State Department of Health.
