We are reaching out to ask for your support in raising funds for Motor Neuron Disease (MND). Gourock Rotary Charity Association is hosting a McGonagall Dinner on 10th April at Gourock Golf Club, featuring guest speakers Alasdair Hendry, Joe Gatherer, and Provost Drew McKenzie.
Alasdair was inspired to raise awareness and funds for MND following diagnosis of a friend. Who sadly has already lost her ability to speak.
Knowing that Gourock Rotary had previously organised a McGonagall Supper, Alasdair approached us with the idea of using our event to raise funds for MND. We are deeply grateful for his efforts to make this a successful fundraising evening.
The evening will be a tribute to Scotland's "worst poet," William McGonagall—although some might disagree with that title! The event will feature the traditional piping of the top table backwards and a three-course meal, starting with coffee/tea and finishing with your starter (a quirky nod to McGonagall’s poetic style!).
After the meal, there will be a series of fantastic after-dinner speakers, each offering their own tribute to Scotland’s most infamous poet.
We invite guests to embrace the theme of the evening by wearing a bunnet and muffler—so come ready to join in the fun and show your support! (We will have a prize for the best bunnet)
At the end of the evening, the top table will be piped out backwards, continuing the playful tradition.
