In the past year, Mixteca has been at the forefront of the current migrant crisis, supporting and offering critical and key services to many of the 125,000 and counting newly-arrived asylum-seekers from across Latin America arriving in New York City and Long Island. Last week it was announced that title 42, the Covid-era policy that allowed US authorities to quickly deport migrants, was lifted and its expected to result in a spike in border crossings that the US is likely not prepared to handle.
Due to the surge of newly arrived asylum seekers expected into the New York City and the surrounding area as a result, Mixteca is in need of urgent funding to continue to provide emergency assistance and critical services to this community. We are currently assisting approximately thousands of individuals receive key services including: Food, toiletries, benefits access, translation services, immigration assistance, adult education, workforce development training and more!
