The benefits of investing in girls' education compound continuously over time. These effects are felt even more acutely in economically adverse contexts. UNICEF cites the following six outcomes of keeping girls in school:
1) Dramatic increases in the lifetime earnings of girls
2) Rise in national growth rates
3) Decline in child marriage rates
4) Decrease in child mortality rates
5) Decrease in maternal mortality rates
6) Drops in child stunting
With your kind support, we can keep orphaned girls in Nansana, Uganda in education and provide them with psychosocial support to bolster their mental health.
In January 2022, schools in Uganda officially reopened after an almost two-year shutdown. However, many children have not been able to return to school because of financial hardship caused by the pandemic, the cost of living crisis and inflation. This has disproportionately impacted girls, who are often prioritised less than their male counterparts when it comes to accessing education.
As a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda, Nansana had one of the highest rates of orphaned children in the country. Driven by a commitment to support orphaned children's access to education, Ashinaga Uganda established a primary education institution and a series of psychosocial support programs aimed at supporting mental wellbeing.
By supporting this appeal, you can provide educational access to orphaned girls and restore hope for those left behind.
Donations will enable us to continue providing primary level education to orphaned girls in Nansana and to promote our work more widely to the community, allowing us to access orphaned girls who have been unable to return to school.
