More about the campaign:
Mimbre has been running a youth programme on housing estates in Hackney since 2008, inspiring a strong community of young people, parents and residents. We use acrobatics, street dance and public performances to allow young people to be physical and creative.
It has helped her confidence, concentration and sociability and helping her body confidence. She is 10, so she is experiencing some pre-teenage body consciousness and general self-consciousness. I think these classes are especially great because they are empowering and show positive role models of strong woman and don't gender stereotype. Parent 2019
Our classes enable a sense of inclusion within a community and also help build self-confidence.
It means to me that I belong somewhere and not just a random place, where I am by myself. [I enjoy] the new things that we learn and the new people that we meet. Participant, age 10
Each year, we reach more than 100 young people, and their families, through the weekly classes, end of term celebrations, theatre outings and external performing opportunities. Our teachers are all inspiring, professional directors, dancers and acrobats.
Mimbre Thank You. We had a wonderful time at Cirque du Soleil last night at the Royal Albert Hall. We have never seen anything like that. I have been in London for 18 years and this is the first time I got to go to the theatre. Thanks so much for giving us tickets. Parent 2019
We really want to keep our classes open to everyone, so families pay according to what they can afford. Typically 70% of places are partly or completely subsidised each term, but that number grew to 78% this term. This shows that the demand for these accessible spaces on the programme is rising and your support would help to keep them available.
The whole Mimbre ethos has taught her valuable lessons about community, working as a team and the importance of trying hard to improve skills. She has Anxiety and I feel that these classes have reduced the impact that has on her. I cannot praise Mimbre enough! Parent 2019
The money raised through JustGiving will allow us to continue offering the subsidised places to those that need them. Your support will help ensure that everyone, no matter background or income, can participate!
Let's get into some numbers to see what your contribution helps cover. Where do the raised funds go?
-£5 covers one class for a young person from a low income family.
-£8 covers the full cost of one class.
-£20 covers the cost of the hall hire for one class.
-£30 covers cakes and refreshment for our end of the term celebration and performance.
-£50 covers one subsided place for low income families for a whole term.
-£80 covers the full-cost of a place for a whole term.
-£100 covers a teacher for three classes.
...but every little helps for us to reach and teach more young people!
I love it! It's great and it teaches you how to put your feet on your head. Participant, age 5
