Story
On June 23rd a feisty crew of 17 daring shipmates will take to the waters to compete against other charity teams as part of the 2019 Bradford Dragon Boat Festival. The Magnificent Millside Mallards will be raising much-needed funds for the Millside Centre, a community space situated in inner-city Bradford that serves vulnerable people and helps them to improve their lives.
The Millside Centre has a whole range of activities and services on offer to our local community. These include a British Red Cross drop-in for refugees and asylum seekers, family support groups, feeding the homeless, mental health support, a Job Club, English classes even a community well-being choir.
One service we host is Andy's Man Club. Every Monday night at 7pm a group of about 20 men get together at the Millside Centre to open up about their mental health problems. The first Andy's Man Club was formed in early 2016 by Halifax rugby league player Luke Ambler after his brother-in-law took his own life. There are now 17 clubs running in places such as Manchester, Peterborough and Oldham. Here's a quick video to show what difference they make.
The Millside Centre is run by the Christian charity Reach Beyond, who partner with charities, churches and other agencies in our locality to create a safe and welcoming community centre where people can access services that will help them to make positive changes in their lives. Please give generously so we can continue to help people in Bradford to reach their full potential. Thank you!
