Join us for Miles for Opportunity 2020, our 4-week virtual challenge and help us raise funds for our vital work.
This challenge was inspired by Fatuma, a 31 year old mother living in the Nakivale Refugee settlement in Uganda. Fatuma and her 7 children travelled nearly 1500 miles by foot and bus in search of a better life.

'Life in Somalia was hard - there was a war going on and there is drought and economic instability. I lost my family there so decided to flee with my children as I had nobody to protect me. I left because I wanted a more peaceful life for me and my children. I brought all seven of my children with me. We walked to the border of Kenya, passed through Kenya by bus and then in Uganda came by bus and walking to Nakivale.' Fatuma, Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda
Every day in Africa men, women and children like Fatuma and her family travel thousands of miles to escape war, poverty and oppression. They leave their homes and everything they know, in search of the opportunities they need to create a better life for themselves and their families.
Sadly, often when they arrive at their destination, they find that their options are limited.
This is why for the month of August, we are calling on our friends and supporters - old and new - to walk, run or cycle (or swim, roller-blade, dog walk..) as many miles as you can whilst raising the vital funds needed to ensure the journeys of brave women like Fatuma and her children are not wasted.
Your support could help provide more families like Fatumas with the loans, training and support they need to begin rebuilding their lives. With the current COVID-19 pandemic, this security is now more important than ever.
Feeling inspired? There are lots of ways you can help!
1. Join the challenge and help us raise the funds we need to continue helping people like Fatuma.
2. Make a donation - just £30 could provide one refugee like Fatuma with a loan, training and support to help her begin working towards a brighter future.
3. Spread the word - share this story with your friends and family and see if you can inspire them too.
