Story
Mikaeel is our 2 year old son from Glasgow. His journey into this world started with a very traumatic birth and 3 weeks in NICU. Around the time of birth he suffered a perinatal stroke and had suspected meningitis. This resulted in him having a substantial right sided brain injury which effects the left hand side of his body.
Strokes in babies are rare but can have a profound effect on a child. Mikaeel has the following challenges. He is unable to use left hand as its always in a fist, has a lack of sensation left hand side of his body, a weak core and a fragile left ankle resulting in gait instability and imbalance.
Thankfully the brains of toddlers brains are very adaptive at a young age and can create new pathways to help learn skills. Early intervention and therapy is the key to best treatment outcome.
To enable Mikaeel to use his left hand and do the simple things in life like holding a ball and climbing up the stairs, the following therapies have been advised to give Mikaeel the best support and care to maximise his potential:
CIMT (constraint induced movement therapy) 4 week intensive program in Manchester;
Galileo vibration plate to help strengthen his muscles and provide sensory input.
Any help big or small would mean the world to us.
Thank you and Jazakallah Khair
