Story
Migrateful helps migrants, refugees and asylum seekers on their journey to employment and independence by supporting them to lead cookery classes. The cookery classes provide ideal conditions not just for learning English and building confidence, but also for promoting contact and cultural exchange with the wider community.
15 of our current chefs from Lebanon, China, Philippines, Albania, Pakistan (2), Tanzania, Ghana, Jamaica (2), Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal, Gambia, Sri Lanka, and Syria, are not legally entitled to work and have no recourse to public funds.
They are very vulnerable and at risk of being drawn in to exploitative, illegal work. We know that our weekly grants can make a huge difference to their lives, and make it possible for them to survive without having to succumb to these high risk strategies. We are therefore looking to raise enough money to enable us to make solidarity payments to the Migrateful chefs to support them to pay for their basic needs such as transport, toiletries and food.
Providing £25 a week to one of our chefs awaiting their status would amount to £1300 over a year. If we manage to raise £19500 we would be able to offer weekly payments to our 15 chefs over a year.
Please help us to support them by donating to our solidarity fund.
