Our Organisation
We are a start-up organisation supporting the local community of Swale in Kent, working with the local authority and local organisations to support the areas & services currently missed. Those that fall through the cracks. This includes the most vulnerable and isolated.
The Charitable purposes of our organisation are:
(1) Relief of Poverty:
(2) Elderly People:
(3) Relief of Financial Hardship:
Swale has some of the highest levels of child, fuel and financial poverty in Kent. Regions such as Murston, Sheppey, Leysdown & Teynham have consistently been in the county and national top 10% for poverty since 2015. This is without the impact of the pandemic and current cost of living crisis. 10% of those living in Swale are also categorised with Fuel Poverty. With 152,000+ population in 2021 this means that 1,500+ are living with financial and fuel poverty. Of these 29000+ are over the age of 65 (20% population). Many of these over the age 65 live in the more rural areas of the borough and often have mobility or transport challenges.
Our main objectives are to provide rest bite to the stress and anxiety brought on by Food & financial Poverty by creating local projects that work with other local organisations as part of a Swale Voluntary sector collaboration.
Currently we are running a home delivery service for our foodbank for those that can’t access the existing venue based foodbanks. This includes referrals from the local authorities housing team and other local non-profit organisations. With current discussions with our local Age UK team over a community cafe venue, Community fridge, clothes bank, soup kitchen and warm space initiatives.
In our first six months of operation we have:
- Delivered 156 food parcels in Swale
- Fed 391 people (48% of which are under 18 yrs old)
- Distributed 1.7 tonnes of food
- Supported residents in 16 of Swales 24 districts
- Seen month on month growth (60% increase on average)
- Created working relationships with Swale Borough Councils Housing Team, Sateda, Sittingbourne, Milton & district Scouts, local Hepatitis C Team.
