Story

Leadership to grow Michigan's farm and food connection is the focus of the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture. Sixty-six percent of Michigan's citizens haven't been on a farm in the last seven years, heightening the importance of consumer education and the farm to food connection.

The Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, a 501(c)3 formed by Michigan Farm Bureau, has a mission of positively contributing to the future of Michigan agriculture through leadership and educational programming. Strategic partners are being sought to invest in helping Michigan's citizens understand agriculture's importance and the vital role it plays in their daily lives. Key programs, along with additional educational opportunities continually reviewed, foster leadership and outreach to build an understanding of agriculture in Michigan.

In Memory Of Gifts

1. Support the future of agriculture in memory of a loved one.

2. To honor your loved one and receive acknowledgement of the gift direct support to the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture with the loved one’s name in the memo line.

Types of Bequests

1. Specific Bequest: This entails gifting a particular asset, such as real estate, a vehicle, or a specific dollar amount. For instance, you might opt to leave your home or $10,000 to the MFA.

2. Percentage Bequest: This involves allocating a set percentage of your overall estate to charity. For example, you may designate 10% of your estate to MFA.

3. Residual Bequest: This bequest is derived from the remaining balance of your estate after specific allocations have been made. Commonly, a percentage of the residue is designated to charity, like leaving 30% of the residue of your estate to MFA.

4. Contingent Bequest: This type of bequest is contingent upon certain conditions, typically if the primary beneficiary is unable to receive the designated property. For instance, you might leave a vacation home to a relative, but if they are not alive at the time of your passing, it would go to MFA.

Bequest Language: To include a bequest in your estate plan, consult with your attorney. Below are examples of language you and your attorney can review and tailor to your needs. It's crucial to work with legal counsel to ensure the language aligns with your specific goals.

Bequest of a Specific Dollar Amount:

I hereby give, devise and bequeath _________ and ($DOLLARS) to the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, a nonprofit organization located at 7373 W. Saginaw Hwy. Lansing, MI, Federal Tax ID #27-0200380, for The Michigan Foundation for Agriculture's general use and purpose.

Restricted Bequests: If you wish to ensure your bequest serves a particular purpose, such as supporting programs in a specific area, we can assist you in drafting appropriate language. Keep in mind that circumstances may arise where fulfilling the original intent becomes impractical. In such cases, flexibility in the language allows the Foundation's Board of Directors to adapt while still honoring the spirit of your gift.

If you have included a bequest in your estate plan, please let us know. We would like to thank and recognize you for your gift.
