Story
Mean Bean Challenge 12-16th October 2020
Ruth works hard, but its not enough to feed her family. We suffer periods of hunger that sometimes last five or six months, says Ruth when we just eat one meal a day and I have to forage for food.
But things are starting to change.
Ruth has received training in farming techniques from Tearfund partner Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN). And her learning is paying off. In the past I harvested three to five bags of maize, explains Ruth. But last harvest, I yielded fifteen bags.
Raising £180,000 through the Mean Bean Challenge could pay for 2500 other families like Ruths to benefit from training in farming techniques; helping them lift themselves out of poverty and leave hunger behind for good.
In some developing countries, lockdowns due to coronavirus have made it even harder for people to access food, meaning that even more people are at risk of going hungry every day. But our local partners are responding quickly to deliver emergency food and supplies (read more about our response here ).
Thank you.
