Story
The Mead Road Marathon is back for another year of amazing fundraising to support The Friends of Mead Road School (PTA) and Demelza Hospice Care for Children. On Thursday 19th November (weather permitting) we will be setting up a 200m circuit on the field, encouraging the children in their year groups to run as many circuits as possible (and what is sensible for their age). We will record how many laps each child does and then calculate the cumulative distance the school has run. If each child runs an average of 2 laps, we should run at least one marathon, if not more!!!
Last year's event was hugely successful with the children actually running the equivalent of 6 marathons with a combined total of 162 miles and raising just under £3000, which was split equally between the FMRS and Demelza Hospice Care for Children. This money helped fund the FMRS's project to build the amazing Woody Tree house and it helped cover the cost of 3 months worth of delicious meals for a family of four staying at one of Demelzas' specialist hospices.
We would be thrilled to raise the same this year to allow the FMRS to provide enrichment activities for the children at the school and to continue our support for local childrens hospice, Demelza by donating 50% of the proceeds inc gift aid. Demelza Hospice Care for Children supports local children living with terminal conditions and their loved ones so they can enjoy the time they have together for as long as they have.
We are hoping that the children can secure individual sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues etc. If each child can raise just £20, we could raise significant funds for both causes. There will be prizes for the child running the longest distance in each class plus a prize for the highest fundraiser overall. We will provide more details on all of this shortly!
Don't forget to set up your sponsorship page, send it, share it, tweet it far and wide, shout it from the roof tops and lets finish 2020 with a bang and make The Mead Road Marathon the best one yet.
