Why do we need your help?
With half a million older people going at least five or six days a week without seeing or speaking to anyone at all, the need to build connections has never been greater.
Manchester Cares seeks to reduce loneliness amongst older and younger people, alike, by connecting them, through our face to face programmes. However, due to Covid-19 we have had to transition these programmes to virtual ones.
We are delivering 12 virtual social clubs per month, for older and younger neighbours, plus 4 phone social clubs, for those with no internet. Together they come together over a quiz, some chair yoga or a virtual dance.
We continue to create new phone friendships, so far we have paired 49 local older and younger neighbours up to share stories and keep one another company.
We are sending out #AloneTogether activity packs to 690 older neighbours each month, containing daily creative distractions
We are making approximately 50 check-in calls each week to ensure that no one faces this crisis alone.
So why not tackle loneliness and take on a 10k for your neighbours this summer?
