Story
Redbridge Carers Support Service are grateful to be supported by the Mayor of Redbridge.
The Young Adult Carers Project aims to support young adult carers, facing exclusion and disadvantage because of their caring role, to make an effective transition to functioning adulthood. Their goal is to support young adult carers to access education, employment, volunteering or training opportunities to attend to their own development needs and have a voice in Redbridge and beyond.
We provide one-to-one information, advice and guidance on a range of topics including health and wellbeing, carers rights, employment, education and training, and more. Young adult carers can access peer support groups, social activities, and personal and professional development workshops and training.
I have loved everything about it. The support, the company, the activities and the opportunity its given me to take time off from caring without feeling guilty.
The Young Adult Carers Project has helped my family and I a lot. My experience has been nothing but positive and they have given us so much help when we first started caring for my dad and when he was diagnosed with his illness. Without them I would have been under a lot more stress when I was having to apply for benefits and their group activities and workshops have also been pleasant experiences that gave me a chance to have a break from everything.
It's like a second family in a way, you can get peer support as well as support from staff, you can ask another carer who has had a similar experience. It is also a second learning opportunity, as you are always learning and it is like a safety net for life.
