Transforming the Community
Building a masjid in Gambia will profoundly impact the local community. A masjid is more than just a place of worship; it is a community center that offers various benefits to people of all ages. It provides a space for congregational prayers, which fosters unity and strengthens social bonds. In addition, masjids often serve as educational hubs where children and adults can learn about Islam, Arabic, and other subjects. These educational opportunities are crucial in regions like Gambia, where access to quality education can be limited. Furthermore, masjids can offer social services such as counselling, charity distributions, and community events, contributing to the overall well-being of the community. By donating to this cause, you are not only building a physical structure but also investing in the socio-economic development and spiritual growth of the Gambian people.
Islamic Teachings on the Importance of Masjids
Islam places great emphasis on the importance of masjids. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever builds a masjid for the sake of Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise" (Sahih Bukhari). This hadith highlights the immense reward awaiting those who contribute to constructing a masjid. Masjids are considered the heart of Muslim communities, serving as places for prayer, education, and social gatherings. They symbolize the presence of Islam in a community and provide a space for Muslims to practice their faith collectively. The Quran also underscores the significance of masjids, stating, "The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah" (Quran 9:18). Supporting the building and maintenance of masjids is a noble act that aligns with the teachings of Islam and holds great spiritual significance.
Eternal Rewards for Donors
Donating towards building a masjid in Gambia is a deed that offers continuous rewards, both in this life and the hereafter. The concept of Sadaqah Jariyah, or ongoing charity, is deeply rooted in Islamic tradition. Acts of Sadaqah Jariyah, such as building a masjid, continue to benefit the donor even after they have passed away. Every prayer performed, every Quran recited, and every act of worship carried out in the masjid will generate ongoing rewards for the donor. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge, and a child who prays for them" (Sahih Muslim). By contributing to the construction of a masjid, you are ensuring a source of ongoing charity that will benefit you in the afterlife. It is an investment in your eternal future, providing perpetual blessings and rewards that will continue to accumulate long after you have departed from this world.
Our Target
The masjid project includes a water well, which will provide clean drinking water not only for the people attending the masjid, but also for the wider community.
£13,500 - large masjid and water well
£1,650 - Solar Package for the masjid. We add fans, lights, solar panels and batteries so that the masjid can remain cool and allow for late evening prayers, without the need to pay for electricity
£1,600 - Carpet for the masjid. The standard plastic mats will be replaced with a carpet, allowing people to pray in comfort and children to sit comfortably during their lessons
£2,900 - Toilet block. Two cubicles for men and two for women. A clean and sanitary place compared to the unhygienic hole in the ground that is the norm.
£850 - Wudu facility. A lovely tiled place, separated for men and women, where they can perform their ablutions to get ready for their prayers
Total £20,500
£4,850 - If we manage to raise an addition £4,850 on top of the target above, we can add a classroom adjacent to the masjid. This greatly increases the learning capacity for the masjid centre, and provides an additional space for the congregation.
Every donation helps.
Thank you.
