Cal Poly Humboldt Giving Day 2025 · 2 April 2025 ·
Students in the Marine Mammal Education and Research Program (MMERP) gain valuable field and life skills as they work together in a diverse, collaborative team studying local marine mammals. Through hands-on experience in one of five research programs, students contribute to long-term projects that support local, regional, and nationwide efforts to conduct gray whale, Steller sea lion, harbor seal, elephant seal, and stranded marine mammal science.
We value the program’s diverse community of student scientists and seek funding to support student participation, ensuring this program remains accessible for all students regardless of financial status. The area of operation and responsibility for responding to stranded marine mammals extends from the Oregon border in Del Norte County to central Mendocino County—a distance of ~250 miles of coastline. While the program provides safety and protocol training and monthly meetings on campus, your gift will support the ability to maintain this 27-year-long student-focused field effort.
Make a gift today to help ensure that every student scientist has the opportunity to participate, gain valuable skills, and continue this important work.
