Story
On Wednesday 20th April 2022, two eight-person crews from different Oxford colleges will attempt to complete a fundraising marathon row from the OUBC Boathouse in Wallingford, back to the College Boathouses in Oxford! The two crews taking on the challenge are:
Trinity College
Worcester College
The crews will row as a pair of boats navigating seven locks between Wallingford and Oxford: Benson, Days, Clifton, Culham, Abingdon, Sandford and Iffley. It is envisaged that the event will take approx. six hours to complete subject to conditions!
The aim of this event is for each crew to raise £1,200 in sponsorship which will support a junior bursary position at Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC). Each bursary place will give a young person free junior membership and access to rowing sessions for a year at FRBC.
Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC) has a unique vision to improve lives through rowing by providing Rowing for All. They aim to give access to rowing to a cross-section of the community, especially those who are most in need because of financial hardship or social circumstance and help them realise their full potential both on and off the water. Specifically, they give every pupil in participating state schools the opportunity to learn to row and compete whilst teaching them the true meaning of teamwork, focus and confidence, provide rowing bursaries for young people to join their junior membership, tackle food insecurity over the long summer holiday, help reduce the reoffending rate of serving prisoners and give the local community access to the river.
Award winning in 2020 and 2021 as British Rowings Club of the Year and Project of the Year in 2020, for their Boats not Bars work, FRBC is a rowing club and charity with a difference.
