Story
What is Man v Horse?
On June 10th the Man versus Horse race takes place in Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales where runners try to beat a horse over a 22-mile course. Nat has taken up the challenge to fundraise for Park Lane Stables Riding for the Disabled, and we hope you will support her on this journey!
Surely, the horse would win?!
Yes, and no. While horses are objectively faster than humans over shorter periods on flat terrain, humans are built for long distance endurance. Add to that the hilly topography of Wales, and mankind does have certain advantages. For example, horses may be able to ascend a hill at speed, but the descent is where humans and their two legs will outrun a horse on most days.
All that said, in the previous 39 years, only three runners had beaten the fastest horse - the last occasion being in 2022.
Training
As you can imagine, training for any race is a huge commitment, and Man v Horse is certainly no exception! Nat has been training for the race every spare minutes she has, including during her well deserved lunch break, which is why your support will mean the world!
About Park Lane Stables
We are a registered RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) centre with a wide programme of activities, including assisted riding, horse care, carriage driving, and hippotherapy. We daily see how being around horses enriches the lives of children and adults with disabilities or learning difficulties. Whether on the autistic spectrum, visually impaired, or a full-time wheelchair user, we offer activities that can help improve confidence, skills and self-esteem, set within a supportive and friendly environment. All sessions are run by fully trained RDA instructors and DBS-checked volunteers.
