Manchester 436

Contribute to the restoration of Manchester 436 which is the oldest surviving Crossley double deck bus.

We tell the story of public road transport in Greater Manchester from its very beginnings in 1824 to the present day. Our mission is to be the best possible long-term guardian of Greater Manchester's public road transport heritage through our extensive collections.

Story

Many of the original items needed for 436 will have to be remanufactureed to the original specifications. This is due to the fact that when it was converted into a caravan, many of the fixtures and fittings were scrapped as they were not required. The remanufacture of such items including seats, window pans and mechanical units is proving to be expensive and can only take place as funds allow which means that the rate of restoration is also dependent on funding.
