Story
In Nigeria, malaria has a devastating impact on children under five, causing serious illness and in some cases, death.
With the right investment, partnerships and innovative strategies, we can help communities fight back against this threat.
In Kano - one of the areas worst affected by malaria, matrons like Mairo (pictured above) are responsible, alongside a team of nurses, for the care of children who are experiencing ‘severe malaria’. The children in Mairo’s care are extremely unwell as a result of contracting malaria.
Malaria Consortium has been supporting the Government of Nigeria to build the skills and resilience of health workers like Mairo and improve the availability of essential resources to ensure that treatment for severe malaria reaches every child in a dignified and timely manner in Kano state.
Your donation can help us to procure essential equipment, train more health workers and support wider health system strengthening in Nigeria and across malaria endemic countries where we work. You can help ensure every child has a chance of a healthy life.
£25 can pay for 30 diagnostic kits for malaria to identify the disease early.
£50 can train a community health worker in malaria diagnosis, who can teach parents how to recognise signs of malaria and refer serious cases for treatment.
£100 can help to equip healthcare facilities with essential equipment and treatment for children with severe malaria.
