Story
There are 66,852 adults in Croydon struggling with their mental health and our strategy is to provide more help for more people, in more areas of the borough by raising £66,852 by World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2024.
Our award winning Active Minds Service supports people to get moving by participating in physical activities such as walking, gardening, yoga, tennis, and outdoor group games in local parks, as well as mindfulness and relaxation activities online and in person.
We need your help! Here’s an idea of what your donation could pay for:
• £5 two pairs of gardening gloves
• £10 vegetable seeds for the allotment
• £20 an hour of yoga instruction
• £50 indoor games for our winter drop-in sessions
• £100 outdoor games sets for activity days in the park
• £500 walking group day trips to London
• £1,000 bike hire for ten people in our cycling group
• £5,000 specialist activity coaching and venue hire for a year
Here’s the fun bit - you could also use this as an opportunity to get active too!
Choose some activities from our list of 66 physical activity challenges, or make up your own and ask family, friends or colleagues to sponsor you for the number of minutes of each activity you do.
Here's the activity list and sponsorship form: https://www.mindincroydon.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/Make-Your-Move-Sponsorship-Form.pdf
You can then log your activities on our tracker here: https://www.mindincroydon.org.uk/how-we-can-help/connecting-with-people/active-minds/make-your-move/
You could also set up a competition with others to see who can log the most minutes (and raise the most money!). Great for a school class, work team or club members.
Our campaign is also focused on the five steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing:
1. Connect: Good relationships are important for your wellbeing so spending time doing activities with other people can really make a difference. You can also help connect us to others by sharing this on social media using the hashtag #makeyourmove4mic.
2. Be Active: Being active is an excellent way to help both your physical and mental wellbeing. Pick an activity, time how long you are active for and log the minutes on the tracker.
3. Keep learning: You can improve your mental wellbeing by learning new skills as this can boost your confidence and help you connect to others. Look at our list of 66 activities for some ideas.
4. Give: Research suggests that acts of giving and kindness can improve your mental wellbeing by creating positive feelings and a sense of reward. By raising money for Mind in Croydon you’ll be really helping us to make a difference.
5. Take Notice: Paying attention to the present moment can improve you mental wellbeing. This ‘mindfulness’ helps you enjoy life more and understand yourself better. Here’s a free mindfulness session that will give you some ideas.
