How can you help support survivors?

There's plenty of ways you can help Savana to provide vital support services to those aged 4+ who have been affected by sexual violence and abuse.

Want to make a difference? why not try one of our fundraising ideas, we've adapted them so you can do them safely during lockdown:

Savana's 30 days of self care challenge

Host your own Virtual Coffee Morning

Other idea's including gaming, baking, art, fitness challenges or anything you can dream up!

30 days of Self Care Challenge

How can you take care of someone else if you don't take care of yourself?
We have created this #30daychallenge to help you practise self-care during lockdown.

Why is self-care important? - Self-care is important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself as it produces positive feelings and boosts your confidence and self-esteem. Also, self-care is necessary to remind yourself and others that you and your needs are important too. ... ensures that you stay sharp, motivated and healthy.
This challenge can be done in order, you can mix and match dependant on how you feel or you can focus on areas you feel you would benefit the most from.

How has Savana been effected by Covid-19?

In our efforts to #stopthespread , Savana is currently temporarily operating a contact-less service. This means that we are still remotely supporting our clients and you can still refer into the service or contact us digitally or on the phone if you need help. Although, this does mean that we cannot currently see our clients face to face.

In the last month alone, we have seen our waiting list increased to nearly 700 people. We have seen reports that abuse has risen threefold worldwide and we are seeing that in the rise in demand for our service.

Whilst we are worried about our ever growing waiting list we are more concerned about how many people now desperately need our help and support and how now more than ever, it is vital we get them the help they need as quickly as possible.

£2000 will enable us to offer an additional 100 counselling sessions - free of charge to the cleint. With this money we will be better equipped to meet the rise in demand for our service and will be able to get people the vital support they need more efficiently.

We can not thank you enough for supporting Savana and allowing us to expand our essential support and prevetion work. We are forever greatful.

About Savana:

As the leading experts around sexual violence and abuse in North Staffordshire. Savana provide help and support for anyone, from the age of 4 and upwards who have experienced any form of sexual violence whether recently or in the past. This includes rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, 'honour' related violence and childhood sexual abuse.

Alongside providing help and support, Savana are dedicated to delivering education around sexual violence including the psychological, physical and practical impacts faced by survivors.

The origin of Savana can be found in a local pilot project set up to raise the aspirations of women in Chell Heath. The emphasis was to encourage women back into education and employment.

However, the workers quickly found themselves overwhelmed listening to women's stories of sexual abuse and violence, the need was recognised and a Rape Crisis service was set up.

The organisation now known as Savana has been on a roller-coaster journey, expanding and implementing a more efficient, responsive and personalised service, enabling us to continue providing face to face counselling, Independent Sexual Violence Advice (ISVA), training and youth programs alongside promoting self-help, self-care and prevention.
