Summary

Phase 1 has seen our primary school run successfully and we have started Phase 2 - work to start secondary school for Sep 19 (new academic year) and Nursery for Dec 19.

We urgently need to raise £100K to enable us to build the facilities to realise the dream of many parents looking to send their children to Madani Academy.

Background

Portsmouth is located along the south coast of England and over the years has become the home to a vibrant Muslim community. There was a growing demand by parents and support from the community for a Muslim faith school in Portsmouth as there was none in the city or surrounding area.

We sought to find a property that would serve us initially as a small primary school but provide the means to expand the primary school as well as establish secondary, nursery schools and facilities for the community.

Alhamdulilah we found a 3658 sqm property, an ex-council site that contained a 3-floor building with an area of 1000 sqm. Additionally there was a car park and space for outdoor play areas.

The total cost of the building was £750,000. We were able to purchase the building paying an initial payment of £300,000 and at the remaining to be paid over a number of years . We now have £220,000 to repay.

The Present - Phase 1

The primary school has been now for 5 years with a total of 45 pupils. Alhamdulilah it has gone from strength to strength. We have also been able to start the changes required to create rooms for the second school as well as the nursery.

Additionally we sought to provide our teachers the right tools to ensure the children receive the best education. Unfortunately, some of these tools have become outdated and require replacement.

As the school expands, there is the need for better and further facilities such as the play area and a dedicated sports hall. These facilities will enable the children to play and perform PE within the school. Currently they perform PE at a local hall.

The school is a fee paying school with the fees utilised to pay for the teachers. Our approach has been to employ experienced, skilled teachers with the available finances we have. This leaves little money for other areas and so we are currently still reliant on donations.

The Future - Phase 2

Alhamdulilah we praise Allah who has enabled us to get to where we have through the financial support, physical support and duas that you have alll made. We ask you all to help us in our appeal to secure the school for the future as well as provide the facilities that will enable our children to have the best education and leave with the best characters.

We urgently need your support for us to achieve our short term and long term financial needs. There are areas that we are seeking to raise money for in the short term.

Secondary School Sep 19

Due to the strong demand for a secondary school, we started a project to convert existing rooms into classrooms and build a science lab. Alhamdulilah we have made great strides but urgently need money to complete the work and buy the furniture needed to be able to start the school by Sep 2019.

Nursery Dec 19

As well as the demand for the Secondary school, there has been a growing interest in a nursery. We have been able to make a start on this using support from the local community but now need your financial support to complete this with the final furnishings an providing regulatory facilities such as a dedicated play area.

The nursery offers the community options to enroll children into our nursery and the school a money generation opportunity that will support us in ensuring we minimise any need for further donations once the school is fully operating.

Safer School and Modernisation

The current location of the play area is somewhat exposed and complex to expand. In light of the current climate, we are seeking to move the play area to a more secluded part of the school. In addition, expanding the number of pupils will require a larger play area.

Prayer Hall

Currently the children use a small area as the prayer hall and assembly. With the expanding school we are looking to create a purpose built area as a prayer hall with wudu facilities. The prayer hall with be the hub of spiritual activities and a place where all the children can be brought together.

We are reviewing options for potentially where the prayer hall could be located in the school grounds.

Land Appeal

We are seeking to raise £35K to enable us to pay for this years building repayment. This will allow us to invest money that is made through fees (and paid throughout the year) to be invested throughout the year on educational needs.

The repayment is one of the main costs for the school and one we are seeking to pay off as soon as possible to enable us to focus our finances totally on improving the school
