Story
Watch the video:
In Moldova, disabled children suffer, children like Irina.
Before Irina came to Phoenix Centre, she spent most of her time in a wheelchair in a tiny dark room with poor conditions and with no contact to the outside world. When under-use atrophied her hands and feet completely, she lost her motor skills.
It's not that Irina's family didn't care--it's that they saw no other choice.
Now, she is always happy and keen to come to the Centre, she is pleased to breathe fresh air and be warmed by the sun.
She likes to work on her hand-to-eye coordination and has friends she talks to outside of the Centre by phone.
Without us, she would still be confined to that tiny room, living an isolated life of misery. Phoenix Centre gave her a chance at life, and isn't that what all children deserve? What do you think?
Moldova is the poorest country in Europe. It is also a country where disabled children and adults are practically invisible, not because they don't exist, but because shame is attached to disabilities, and so they are all too often hidden from view. One dire consequence is a critical lack of support systems, from both public and private entities.
Mobility aids are almost non-existent in Moldova. Sometimes immobile children are left alone for days at a time while their parents work to try and provide for them. Such children cannot access education and this leads to their further isolation. Isolated children become isolated adults, trapped at home alone, without the support they so desperately need. Like Irina.
The Phoenix Centre
Phoenix Centre is the heart of our work in Moldova, it's the largest of our three core programs. It transforms the lives of children with special needs through education, activities, and therapies.
The centre provides transport to and from their homes, three meals a day, and activities to promote inclusion, including day excursions. For the children and youth, it has become a second home, where they receive the warmth, support, and love they need to escape loneliness and isolation. Its a place where they have a second family in the friends they make, developing life-long relationships.
About This Campaign
Without YOUR help, the Phoenix Centre may have to close its doors. We need £40,000 to £48,000 a year to keep Phoenix Centre running. Around £5,000 is donated by local authorities and a small contract with the government brings in another £5,000.
The rest comes from generous people like you who donate to our programs. The past few years we have found fundraising very difficult. We really need your help to ensure that the children we care for have another year in their development, and are not left at home in isolation, hidden away from society.
YOU can make a real difference by donating, helping us continue to run the Phoenix Centre and ensuring that the children under our care continue to get the support they need."
Thank you <3
Merry Christmas from our children
Your support is needed to keep the centre running. With your help, we can continue making a real impact on kids like Irina who otherwise would be confined to their homes.
