Story

Lymm Sanctuary Hub and Business Centre is creating an exciting and appealing new community space in the unused garden area beside Lymm Library. It will include memorial, sensory and educational content and we will also provide a home to community project and wellbeing activities, including 'The Lymm Tree'.

NOTE: If you would like your donation to support The Lymm Tree element ONLY, please visit their separate fundraising page at: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/the-lymm-tree

Donations via this page will support the overall project so that the full garden development can be completed, without which permission on the land could alter.

We seek to create an amazing legacy project for Lymm, the tree included, and we encourage you to read about and support both projects as they are entwined.

The full garden project will cost over £7,000 and be conducted in several stages. Having secured an initial contribution from Lymm Parish Council and dipping into the Hub's legacy fund, this campaign now aims to make up the shortfall to cover landscaping supplies, outdoor furniture and equipment.

We are also reaching out to local community groups, fundraisers, businesses and organisations that may be able to support us.

As well as financial donations, we also need: volunteer time and expertise; landscaping time, resources and equipment; people who may wish to buy a bench or memorial plaque; sponsors of our planters; and garden patrons to support the ongoing maintenance fund.

We plan to offer a home to several local community sub-projects which would be in keeping with the remit of Lymm Sanctuary Hub, the Library, both Parish and Borough Councils.

We will be collaborating with various community projects and organisations, including The Lymm Tree, Lymm in Bloom, Lymm Gardening Club, LEAF, Lymm Jubilee WI, Lymm Round Table, Lymm Ladies, Lymm Rotary, Cheshire Wellness, Lymm Heritage Centre, LNOBIL, Lymm Rocks, and local schools, pre-schools and nurseries. If you are involved with a community group or project and we've not yet reached you, please get in touch to find out more about how we can work together.

The garden will remain Borough Council land that can't be developed on. The garden property will be surface-based and removable. The land will be managed by legal agreement by LSH whose role it would be to project-manage the development and maintenance of the community garden and the sub-projects within its space.

Amongst other plans for the space, the garden will offer a home to the 'The Lymm Tree' which is a 4-metre high solar-powered, lit-up tree comprising wire frame and knitted/crochet squares made by the community. Outer sleeves will be replaced each season to mirror times of year and local events eg Christmas (Dickensian), Easter (Duck race), Summer (Transport Day and Lymm Festival) as well as national occasions (Coronation). Many local crafters and groups have been involved in making the squares which has already promoted considerable wellbeing and community spirit. We hope the tree will also bring in visitation to the library area and Lymm generally.

Future phases of garden development we hope to work on (subject to support and finances) might include:

* Home to a royal display timed, opened for the Coronation of King Charles;

* Home to a LNOBIL display (remembering Lymm's Covid-response project);

* Home to a new LEAF (Lymm Environment Action Forum) and promoting educational event and talks around environmental topics such as recycling, reducing waste, energy-saving and sustainable food projects;

* Home to a mental wellbeing garden, created by Lymm Rocks, with a Bee Happy and Bug house theme.

* Space for project groups to sit out in good weather e.g. the neighbouring Memory Café dementia support group;

* Further planters will be planted and maintained by Lymm Gardening Club and Lymm in Bloom.

* Raised planters for educational purposes for local children's and scouting groups e.g. herb garden, edible cottage garden. Children’s nurseries/pre-schools may wish to support a planter and bring children to visit the garden, learn about nature and involve staff in watering routines;

* Community and friendship seating in the garden and along the front wall of the library;

* Community bench seating in the garden and along the front wall of the library interspersed with smaller planters and not infringing on any pavement area would give locals chance to chat, reflect on the garden’s content and view memorial plaques.

* Sale of memorial plaques or small tiles with funds going back into the garden maintenance fund.

Please consider how you may be able to support this legacy project for Lymm, whether by making a donation here or offering your time, expertise, materials, resources or future patronage.
