Story
Lumos is fighting for every child's right to grow up in a safe and loving family, and not an orphanage.
The Lumos London Landmarks Half Marathon Team is running 13.1 miles on April 3rd, 2022 to help make this a reality!
You can support today by donating to our team's fundraising pages.
Currently over 5.4 million children are growing up in orphanages, but these institutions severely damage the emotional and physical wellbeing of a child and has life-long impacts - drastically increasing a child's risk of entering crime and prostitution in adulthood, and ultimately alarmingly higher rates of suicide.
Lumos is working around the world to provide a solution - through directly supporting vulnerable children and their families with medical, healthcare, educational and financial assistance to prevent the drivers of family separation. And through petitioning governments to change the use of orphanages in their countries.
Lumos will keep fighting until every child grows up at home within a safe and loving family, and not an orphanage. Your support is making this a reality!
Meet Grace. From her early work to keep children off the streets in Kenya, to her determination to stand up for struggling families and prevent baby abandonment, child abuse and neglect to her passion for care reform in Kenya and beyond, shes a shining example of the caring force that drives our work.
Thanks to our 100% pledge, every penny you donate will be used to directly support Lumos' projects protecting children.
Here's how your donation could make a difference:
- £10 could provide children + families in desperate need with emergency food kits, including flour, rice, pasta, tinned fish and milk.
- £25 could provide families with hygiene kits, including disinfectant and soap, to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus within vulnerable communities.
- £100 could provide a vulnerable child who has lived in an orphanage with counselling they desperately need to recover from their experiences.
Thank you so much!
With your support we are closer to achieving a world where all children will grow up at home, in an environment where they are loved and cared for by their families, and not in an orphanage.
