Every year Lumenus Community Services provides assistance to thousands of youth and young adults through a wide range of programs that tackle mental health, developmental challenges, as well as autism and treatment.

And while these services are provided free of charge to those in need, unforeseen financial barriers can prevent an individuals ability to access the help thats essential to improving their mental and physical well-being. Thats why we created The Resiliency Fund.

The Resiliency Fund is a unique funding opportunity that allows our counsellors and program supervisors to offer the financial support a client may temporarily need in order to continue their journey back to wellness. Once this financial barrier is identified, our staff work with The Resiliency Committee to request financial support to remedy the issue with a small investment in our clients. Most people would not look twice at these small investments, but they can make all the difference to an individual in crisis.

Providing ad hoc funding to those who attend one of our many support sessions or are trying to join them is what this program is all about. Here a few examples of the Resiliency fund in action:

A gay youth is living in an abusive family environment without the privacy needed to access support services. He hasnt yet come out, he feels alone, unsupported, and is dealing with socio-emotional issues. By providing him with a pay-as-you-go card for virtual counselling, he can access the help he needs from outside of the home.

For a young mother who has been a victim of abuse and is now in Lumenus Wraparound program, moving out of a shelter into a new living environment is a big step. And while shes purchased 2 new beds for her children, she just doesnt have the $80 required to cover the delivery fee.

Every situation is unique and thats why the Resiliency Fund is designed to offer versatile solutions to the financial challenges we recognize as impeding client progress.

Each request ensures as many clients as possible can benefit from this fund. But while we feel its important to meet the urgent requests from those in need our budgets cant support them. And thats why were asking for your support to help us grow the Resiliency Fund.
