Story
Lucy is aged 2 from Doncaster. She was born on the 23/4/22, via emergency c section at 37 weeks, weighing 5lbs. She lacked a lot of oxygen and needed help breathing. Her brain was significantly damaged. It was a very difficult and traumatic birth with many complications.
Since birth Lucy shown many difficulties and illnesses straight away. At 5 days old after many test and investigations an mri scan showed the damage to her brain, leading to diagnosis of quad mixed cerebral palsy. Heart breakingly this was the most severe end of the spectrum affecting her whole body in and out, sight, eating, drinking, breathing, secretions, severe GERD, reflux, physical posture and abilities and epilepsy. These issues are becoming more apparent with age.
Due to a severely dangerous swallow causing aspiration into her lungs she is fully dependant on a feeding tube to allow her to feed and receive medications. She now has a gastrostomy tube into her tummy while she is very prone to chest infections which do cause hospitalisation. Her severe strider affects her being upright and breathing. Many operations and medications have not been successful yet.
Lucy cannot sit unaided, nor crawl nor walk, has poor trunk and head control and struggles to control her limbs. In addition, she now suffers with hip dysplasia and surgery is needed. This could have been avoided with the correct equipment and professional care in place.
Desperately I began to search for specialist equipment and therapies that would help her to reach these goals and make her life easier and less painful. Therapies such as intensive physio, hydrotherapy, DMI and respiratory coaching do and will help so much. Only some and very basic therapies and equipment are provided by the NHS and it is just not enough for Lucy’s complex needs. So, we need to find the funds for Just4Children if Lucy is to have the chance at life she deserves. It comes at a great cost which we cannot to afford. We dream your donations allow us to improve her quality of life in all aspects.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
