The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Over 8 days starting in June 2024, students from the University of Loughborough Rag will be taking a £500 car on one epic final journey.
After meeting at Dover, they will cover 2000 miles across 12 countries. Along the way, experiencing the sights of Brussels, Lake Garda, the Alps, Slovenia and Dubrovnik to name but a few.
Participants on the Dash to Dubrovnik will need to raise a minimum of £750 for the Amnesty International UK Charitable UK Trust.
Amnesty International UK works to protect women, men and children wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. We defend human rights whenever and wherever they are under threat and bring perpetrators of abuse to justice. We protect individuals at risk, fight for the unjustly imprisoned and prevent torture. We support marginalised groups including women, refugees, LGBTI, and other minority groups.
Some examples of issues we are currently working on include:
"I welcome refugees" - We work to create a fair and effective system for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the UK (and abroad). Sadly many governments in Europe (including the UK) are rolling back protections for those displaced by poverty, war and climate change making this work more important than ever.
Women's rights - Every person on the planet should be entitled to their rights but many are routinely denied to women and girls. Deep-seated discrimination and social traditions often set unequal power relations between men and women. And some human rights will be denied to a woman on a daily basis (access to education or healthcare) creating multiple obstacles women face over and over again. This year we'll be standing behind Afghan women to ensure pledges made to protect their rights aren't forgotten.
Human Rights in the UK - The UK government have recently passed bills criminalising peaceful protest and removing vital protections for migrants and refugees. There are also plans to repeal the Human Rights Act to replace it with a British Bill of Rights with significantly fewer protections. We will use our position as the largest human rights organistion in the UK to stand against this trend and to support progressive human rights legislation.
These are just a few cases of our essential human rights work we do in the UK. By raising funds for Amnesty International UK you will be helping ensure we can continue to carry out this vital work.
