In April 2023 Simon Prodger died unexpectedly. He was a remarkable man who did so much for cricket. On his death his friends established the Simon Prodger Legacy Fund inside the Club Cricket Charity to create a legacy for him and raise funds for causes close to his heart. Nick Gandon, a great mate of Prodge, was centrally involved in this development.
But, at the end of 2023, just when Fund activities were ready for take off, Nick himself became unwell.
The campaign was necessarily placed on hold. Legacy Fund with a similar fund for Nick Gandon – to be called “the Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund” (GPLF). This merger is highly appropriate: the two were great friends, adored cricket, were kindred spirits working together on many ‘cricket for good’ initiatives; they cared about the same causes, ones which the Fund aims now to help very generously.
The SleepOut event at Lord's Cricket Ground is a one off event where our fundraisers will spend a night sleeping under the stars to raise awareness and funds for the GPLF and other partner charities.
50% of all the money raised will go to the GPLF who will use the money to support four charities: the East Africa Character Development Trust, the Alsama Project, the Club Cricket Charity and the Saracens Foundation. Each of these chosen charities delivers work designed to achieve transformational change among young people contending with multiple disadvantages; uses cricket and / or sport more widely as a medium for engaging young people and were/are is very well-known to both Simon and Nick.
The other 50% of funds raised will go to the charity who recruited the sleeper!
This event has the potential to change so many lives and support so many charities and is a one off experience to sleep under the stands at the Home of Cricket.
