Story
Disaster at the LOPC
On 2nd January 2024 flood water rose to the highest levels in living memory at the LOPC. Rising above the archway of Loughborough Road bridge where the Bellboats are stored, one of the boats has been crushed by the force of the water.
As the water continued to rise, dirty / silty water entered the building at approximately 6.30pm and continued to rise, getting into electrical appliances (fridge’s, freezer’s, oven, photocopier), kitchen units, cupboard's containing children’s games and admin data such as payroll reports, got under carpets and Lino damaging the floors and caused doors and door frames to swell.
At approximately 4am the water breached lower level plug sockets, IT and phone connections, shorting out the electrical circuits on site.
With damage running into 10’s of thousands of pounds, the LOPC is unable to insure against such damage as cannot insure against flooding.
The force and level of flood water lifted a shipping container off of its plinths, leaving yet another an issue for the Centre to resolve.
Can you help the mammoth costs of restoring the LOPC back to full operational capacity? Many thanks. 🙏
LOPC is for EVERYONE, for Enjoyment, for Learning, for a Sustainable Future

An update for those following
The Offices have been cleared of carpets & the files are having to be destroyed. We are used to teaching resilience on site and we are certainly practicing the art of staying positive as we discard countless records and pieces of equipment. Your support is massively appreciated.
UPDATE
It is with massive thanks to the many people who have been to help and support the recovery of the LOPC that we are making great progress.
with most of the affected areas of the Centre now painted we have expert help in to replace the flooring this week and are moving towards being open again for 5th February.
we have found that many of the rated Fire-doors that expanded have not shrunk back to size & even cutting them down has not helped…. New doors now required and for anyone who has looked into FD rated doors they are super expensive ££££.
Nevertheless, it’s coming together. Please continue to share the link & help us to raise the much-need funds.
Thank you from ALL at the LOPC.
