Story
Love of Learning is excited about our recent partnership with the African Conservation and Community Foundation (ACCF) and Tusk.
These organizations work to raise funds to support awareness surrounding the importance of preserving and protecting African wilderness by empowering the communities living alongside these areas. Their mission is to fund efforts for community outreach, anti-poaching and conservation. This work is critical to establishing a sustainable framework around conservation, and demonstrates to our students the impact each person's contribution, energy and enthusiasm can inspire when we work together to educate ourselves and one another.
LOLMS Initiatives:
* Our entire school is partnering in an educational fundraising initiative with Tusk (tusk.org) and the African Conservation and Community Foundation (ACCF) (africanccf.org).
* In addition, LOLMS is launching an initiative creating a pilot program for independent schools supporting the goals of Tusk and ACCF through African studies over a three month period across all disciplines.
* The study will culminate with a curated museum event of their work and studies.
*By delving deep into their studies across multiple disciplines, our students will have a deeper connection to their global world and see that they can be a part of the solutions.
Portraits of African elephants: Our students worked on their own portraits and have had some amazing teaching moments in this lesson with African elephants. One student said, "Mrs. Breen, I'm really proud of my drawing and I want you to see it." And we want YOU to see it!
Earth Day Recycled Sculptures: Our students used Earth Day as a springboard to create unique recycled sculptures of the animals of Africa they have been learning about. You can see some photos of them in the gallery of this page as well.
WHAT'S AHEAD- Visiting Artists Program
The Lion Trail is an event hosted by Tusk, officially launching in late August. The concept is to create an art trail to raise funds for Tusks work supporting conservation and local communities across Africa impacted by Covid-19. Kevin McVoy, Elizabeth Jordan, Donna Karan, Deborra Jackman and Oscar Jackman will be working in an art studio to build their original sculptures to be featured on our very own Lion Trail in the Hamptons this summer. Some of our advanced art students will be working alongside the aforementioned artists to create their sculptures. Together they will be making a life size rhino!
