Story

Bristol Civic Society and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust are excited to announce the first blue plaque for Lockleaze!

The blue plaque will honour Reverend Ernest Marvin, minister at St James Presbyterian Church, Romney Avenue who was an inspirational youth-club leader to so many Lockleaze residents.

When the Lockleaze housing estate was being developed in the late fifties and early sixties he co-wrote a ground-breaking Passion play, A Man Dies, and youth club members formed the cast. Today, Lockleaze has long-standing residents who recall Rev Marvin with great respect and affection.

Fundraising is under way and we are keen to give local people the chance to contribute towards the cost. Please give what you like, however modest. The target is £200.

Our thanks and appreciation to all those who have been involved in this campaign. With your support the Rev. Ernest Marvin, and Lockleaze will make the headlines once again.

See above for an image of how the blue plaque will look, and where it will be on the building.
