Story
Alder Hey Children's Charity is raising £3m in support of a brand new Surgical Neonatal Unit. The new Surgical NICU is a joint project between Alder Hey and Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust as the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership.
The unit will offer a further 22 neonatal cots for Liverpool and will feature 18 individual family rooms where parents can be alongside their poorly newborns whilst they're receiving expert care.
The unit will address a shared concern between Liverpool Women's and Alder Hey that babies who need specialist surgery currently have to be transferred to Alder Hey to get the specialist surgical care they need and are then transferred back to Liverpool Women's Hospital to continue their specialist neonatal care.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport will raise £80,000 to fund an individual family room in the new unit. When designing Alder Heys Surgical NICU, the focus at all times has been on keeping families together. Inspired by this, it will be the first NICU in the UK to offer private and secure accommodation for parents which will be attached to their baby's room. These dedicated spaces can either be separate from or opened to join with the clinical cot space, depending on the needs of the parent/baby.
