Story
Human trafficking involves trapping people using violence, deception or coercion and exploiting them for financial or personal gain.
Along the nearly 1,800km border between India and Nepal, 10,000 to 15,000 Nepali women and girls are being sold annually in India, and between 7,000 to 10,000 girls, between the ages of nine to 16 years, are being trafficked each year from Nepal to India.
Maiti Nepal - One Family's anti-trafficking fund partner - was founded in 1993, with the aim of combatting this very exploitation. Through comprehensive rehabilitation programmes promoting education, empowerment, health, and social inclusion, as well as rescue and prevention, Maiti Nepal has intercepted the trafficking of 52,047 women and girls - a number which continues to rise daily.
The Annapurna Trek 2023 aims to raise vital funds to save the lives of countless trafficking victims and ensure there is always a safe space for them at Maiti Nepal. Through education, legal support to bring traffickers to justice, medical aid, shelter, work/skills training and more - Maiti Nepal has become a safe haven for those who have been exploited. By joining us as a fundraiser, you pledge to protect and sustain this haven: ensuring no victim of trafficking is left stranded.
