Story
Ahoy!
Support us in our mission of tackling educational inequality by holding a fundraising event or making an individual donation to our World Book Day campaign on March 5th 2020, and help us reach our £2500 target.
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it's a celebration of reading. In fact, it's the biggest celebration of its kind, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
We celebrate reading with our Young Pirates everyday at our Hackney and Haringey learning centres, with supported reading sessions and by publishing the childrens creative writing as books, films and podcasts. Our after-school Learning Programme supports 280 young people, aged 9-13, to develop their literacy, confidence and perseverance, so they can achieve more at school and beyond.
How you can get involved and support us
1. Hold a themed fundraising event. From piratey bake sales to book-themed quiz nights, have fun whilst also raising money and awareness for The Literacy Pirates. We've prepared a handy guide full of ideas here.
2. Too busy to organise an event? You can make a financial contribution by donating right here on our Just Giving page. (Dont forget to let us know who you are so we can thank you!)
3. FinallySpread the word! Tell a friend, your CSR manager, encourage colleagues to donate to our campaign, post about us on social media, or why not sign up as a regular volunteer here.
How your donation will be used
This year we are running our year-long Learning Programme across two London boroughs for the first time. All the money raised will go towards delivering our 2019-20 programme.
£5 could go towards a new book for our libraries. Every session, children read one-to-one or in small groups with a volunteer as part of our targeted reading support.
£25 could go towards the cost of running a childs weekly learning session in our fantastical learning space.
£100 could go towards our exciting published projects. Next up is our annual audio project, which will see our Young Pirates plan, write and record their very own podcast!
£500 could go towards a teachers salary- running our sessions and motivating the children we support.
