Story
Our Kensal Tri team - local legends! - are fundraising to support two community initiatives based at the Lexi (and you can join our team, instead of sponsoring us, by clicking on the orange 'start fundraising' button above!):
Salusbury World Refugee Film Club - monthly, year-round:
£3.5k would support these wonderful screenings for a whole year, and keep entry free of charge. Every second Tuesday we welcome 20 - 30 local refugee mums to watch a film with English subtitles, have a cup of coffee and some popcorn - it's a chance to take a rare couple of hours for themselves, socialise and brush up on their English. The ESOL discussion post-show is facilitated by Aynur, Salusbury's ESOL lead. The funds are needed for venue and staff costs, and film rights.
Warm & Cosy screenings - weekly, November to February
£3.5k would pay for 16 weekly screenings, on Monday afternoons for families with young children who are struggling with the cost of heating their homes. At these popular shows we screen a recent kids film, offer complimentary hot drinks for the grown-ups and juice for the little ones - and popcorn for all. These screenings are advertised via Brent Food Bank, via Sufra, and local Children's Centres.
Any extra money: will support subsidised trips to the Lexi for holiday clubs and nurseries, including Salusbury World, bringing little ones for fun at the cinema while their parents work. We keep this affordable for local children in childcare by running shows with prices as low as we can possibly make them.
A £10 donation, with Gift Aid (25% extra, at no extra cost to you), would be worth £12.50 to our community!
ABOUT THE TRI - we want to recruit as many local people, of any shape/size or level of fitness, to enjoy local swim/cycle/runs and join 150 people from across the area. Most of us are complete sporty event novices - and over half will do Relay legs instead of all three legs. The aim is to have fun. www.kensaltri.com
ABOUT THE LEXI - the Lexi is London's only social enterprise cinema, a volunteer-run picture palace with very strong links to our local community and a unique charity in South Africa. Since 2008 we've been 'using business to do good' and putting local people at the heart of everything we do.
As well as delivering an amazing film programme we are also a valuable resource for our local neighbourhood and home borough of Brent, delivering a multitude of film-based community projects.
With huge thanks for every penny, from all of us at The Lexi and Salusbury World x
