URGENT APPEAL FOR FUNDS
Leatherhead lies in Mole Valley district in Surrey, England and its neighbouring villages comprises Ashtead, Fetcham and Great Bookham. Leatherhead population estimate for 2018 is 33,184. According to 2011 Census, Islam is 3rd largest religion in Leatherhead: Leatherhead and its surrounding villages is a home to a community of some 1,200 Muslims. Despite housing the largest portion of Muslim population in Mole Valley, Leatherhead has no Islamic centre or an established Mosque. Leatherhead houses some 167 Companies, including some of the largest enterprises.
Community volunteers have organized Friday congregation for about 20 years and rented a hall at the Christ Church to provide place of regular Friday prayers. Volunteers have been working for approx. 2 years to give a bit more structure and organization and a Society concept is considered. In March 2020 Leatherhead District Islamic Society was formed officially and registered as a Charity (registration number 1188697) with six LDIS trustees.
In early February, 2020, Church served LDIS notice to vacate the property as church is now selling the property and the property’s estimated prices is approx. 2-3 million pounds.
We are now praying in another church temporarily, The Presbytery, 2 Garlands Rd, Leatherhead, KT227EZ
Muslim community in Leatherhead district is under immense pressure to find a suitable place to continue the congregation that has been happening for approximately 20 years. LDIS is now considering this to buy the property and formalize its business operations to help and support the community.
This is an appeal to you to help us in our noble cause and have your share in the blessings of both worlds.
Note: We shall inshaa Allah be commencing our Friday Prayers around 1 pm approximately in Leatherhead Theatre's top floor in the meantime.
