Story
Leatherhead and its surrounding villages is a home to a community of some 1,500 - 2000 Muslims. Despite housing the largest portion of Muslim population in Mole Valley, Leatherhead has no Islamic centre or an established Mosque. Leatherhead houses some 167 Companies, including some of the largest enterprises such as: Unilever Food solutions, Puma, KBR Inc., Granherne, Regus, Robert Dyas, The National Grid plc, Toshiba Air Conditioning etc. Muslims make a considerable proportion of the workforce and are commuting daily, many of which have settled down in Leatherhead and its surroundings due to natural order of travel necessities.
Community volunteers have organized Friday congregation for about 20 years and rented a hall at the Christ Church to provide place of regular Friday prayers. Volunteers have been working for approx. 2 years to give a bit more structure and organization and a Society concept is considered. In March 2020 Leatherhead District Islamic Society was formed officially and registered as a Charity (registration number 123) with six LDIS trustees. LDIS opened Charity Bank Account and consolidated all donations by transferring and/or depositing monies into the account.
In early February, 2020, Church served LDIS notice to vacate the property by now as church is now selling the property and the propertys estimated prices is approx. 3 million pounds. Muslim community in Leatherhead district is under immense pressure to find a suitable place to continue the congregation that has been happening for approximately 20 years. LDIS is now considering this to buy the property and formalize its business operations to help and support the community.
This is an appeal to you and your organization to help us in our noble cause and have your share in the blessings of both worlds.
