Story
Jesmond Library is a unique, award winning, Grade 2 listed building of 1963. The Friends of Jesmond Library are responsible for maintaining this much loved place for future generations.
For three years we have been raising money to replace all the original windows in the library. Many of them were cracked, the frames corroded and all were single glazed. We needed new ones, partly for the warmth and comfort of all library users, partly to improve our environmental performance, and partly to save money on energy bills which could then be used to create more community services.
There are 21 sets of windows and so far we have replaced 15 of them with new double glazed units over three phases of work. We have done this with the help of several charitable trusts and with kind donations from our members and local residents. Now we have reached the final chapter of the last 6 windows. We have once again made grant applications but we hope our supporters will enable us to leverage these grants by donating what they can. Please help us bring this story to a happy conclusion!
