Story
King's College Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cares for the very sickest babies from South London and beyond. The multi-disciplinary team comprises doctors, nurses, therapists, surgeons and more who work together to secure the best outcomes for babies.
Kings NICU is a medical and surgical unit offering all levels of care to over 600 babies per year. More than 50% of the babies admitted are born prematurely, some as much as 17 weeks early and weighing only 500 grams.
We also look after babies with antenatally diagnosed complex conditions requiring surgery as well as those transferred for specialist care including controlled cooling to treat brain injury.
Achieving the best outcome for sick babies not only requires trained staff and specialist equipment, but also the provision of developmental care and care for families.
As a team we are aiming to raise funds to provide resources for each baby including Zaky Hands and other positioning and comfort aids as well as developmental and sensory toys and equipment.
Resources used by our team of therapists and nurses has a positive impact on developmental outcomes for babies.
In addition to this any improvements we can make in the provision of facilities and support for families and carers will seek to enhance their experience and help them navigate their neonatal journey.
Thank you so much for your contribution, it will mean so much to our special babies and their families.
