Since 2017, The Omara Trust has sponsored the training of a Paediatrician in Uganda and a Neurosurgeon in Kenya.
For the next three years we have committed to supporting a Kenyan junior doctor as he completes Internal Medicine training at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Eldoret.
Ultimately, his ambition is to become a nephrologist (kidney specialist). For a population of over 53 million, Kenya has only 41 nephrologists, most of whom are based in the major towns and cities. Only 2% of hospitals in the country have a renal department. It is estimated that four million Kenyans are affected by kidney disease, but the vast majority will never see a nephrologist.
Your support will enable him to begin his specialist training, with his aim being "to bridge the disparity between the available medical specialists and the growing number of individuals afflicted by kidney disorders".
