Story
NUFC TRUST and the Bubble Foundation have joined forces to fundraise for a laser machine for Ward 3 at the Great North Children's hospital.
Babies and children here undergo a bone marrow (or stem cell) transplant and can be isolated in one room for 6 months at a time away from home and are not allowed visits from family, friends and pets.
They need this because their immune system is severely compromised meaning that often, they will die without our help.
A crucial part of restoring an immune system is to completely wipe the current one and start again with new cells given by a family member or a complete stranger . To do this children often need chemotherapy. Sadly there are side effects to this that can prolong their stay in isolation and it is called mucositis. A laser machine has shown to treat Mucositis and Ward 3 require one to do their job and stop patients being in as much pain and hopefully get them home sooner.
Will you help?
