A landslide in the villages of Ban Mae La Ka Tai and Ban Hua Mae La Ka has meant that the residents of Mae La Ka Tai will have to relocate as many homes are destroyed and there is a risk of further landslides in the village. The landslide also damaged much of KHT's WASH system, including making the water source inaccessible. Sadly, one villager was also killed and others have been injured. Some of the WASH system was also damaged in Ban Hua Mae La Ka.
In Ban Kopee, KHT's 15 year old WASH system has been damaged beyond repair, leaving this large central village with no water. Many homes were destroyed and one consolation is that the flood happened during the day meaning people were able to escape to safety. More than 400 people are now unable to access safe water for their most basic needs.
In all three villages, many families are now desperately food insecure. Their harvests have been washed away, leaving them with no rice until they can plant again. The lack of water will also have a major impact on health, as well as the trauma of losing their homes and having to rebuild impacting their well-being.
We need your help to make sure 60 families are not left hungry and two villages will not be deprived of water! The funds raised will be used to cover nutrition needs (rice and dry food distribution), to provide villages with temporary water systems, hygiene material and to make sure the affected villages will get safe water in the future too.
KHT will be providing emergency rice supplies to families to support them until they can plant and harvest again in 3 months. We will also be providing temporary piped water to where villagers are staying to ensure they have water to use for cooking and washing.
