Story
Kettlefields Primary School are looking to raise £20k to buy their own mini-bus. As a rural primary school, we find it difficult to get to events and trips. We heavily rely on parents to help transport children to sports events which can be time consuming and a challenge for working parents. We are reliant on booking coaches this can be difficult as often there is limited availability and they are also very expensive. Last year, it cost £5k for the coach to take one class to 10 weeks of swimming lessons, up from £2k the previous year. This figure is unsustainable long term with diminishing budgets however, swimming is a vital part of the school curriculum! The time has come to think differently about what we do to allow us to future proof our provision. Not only will a mini bus allow us to attend sports competitions, music events, sporting friendlies with other schools and curriculum challenges. It will also allow us to think more creatively about some of the trips and visits we can offer across the school. With increased access to places like Newmarket and Cambridge, a wealth of cultural and historical museums, landmarks, parks and galleries would be available to us without the financial barrier of a coach. Kettlefields aims to ensure that all pupils regardless of their background has the opportunity to experience a rich curriculum and we are committed to building children’s cultural capital.
